How Much Does Concrete Sealing Cost?

While a brightly colored epoxy floor coating can bring warmth, life, and beauty to any space, it may not fit your needs.  Perhaps you aren’t looking to make a statement with color flakes - you just want your concrete sealed to protect it and extend its life (not to mention the added bonus of being able to simply wipe up oil that drips onto your garage floor!).  Or perhaps you already have an epoxy coating on your floor and you need it resealed to keep its color vibrant and remove the scuffs and scratches that have built up over the years.  Concrete sealer is the perfect solution for either of these scenarios.  But how much should you expect to pay for concrete sealing?

Hiring a professional to seal or reseal your concrete floor is the simplest option.  You can expect to pay approximately $4 per square foot for the materials and labor to have your floor sealed.  For a standard two-car garage, you can therefore expect to pay approximately $1,750 to have the floor sealed or resealed.  Remember that prices can vary based on the condition of your floor and other details of your project, so getting several quotes before making a decision on if and how to seal or reseal your concrete is always highly recommended.

If you plan to seal or reseal your floor yourself, you can expect to pay between $0.50 and $0.75 per square foot for a standard sealer (though you can pay as much as $65 a square foot for specialty sealers!).  Applying a standard sealer to a two-car garage will therefore only cost you between $200 and $350 to seal or reseal yourself.  However, there are many other considerations that might increase this cost.

Before applying a new coat of sealer, you must clean the floor thoroughly, remove any stains, and fill in or repair any cracks or scratches.  If you are reapplying a top coat of sealer to an already finished floor, filling cracks simply means adding a little extra sealer to the crack with a brush before applying a smooth top coat with a brush or roller.  For an initial sealing of bare concrete, more intensive cleaning and repairs will likely be needed.  Remember to include the cost of any supplies or repairs when you are budgeting for a DIY project.

Sealing a new or existing slab of concrete is a very cost effective way to protect your floor.  It will not provide the same look or durability of an epoxy floor coating, but it will prolong the life of a bare concrete slab and protect it from moisture and stains.  If you already have an epoxy floor coating, adding or reapplying a sealer will protect the epoxy underneath, ensuring that it is effective for years (or even decades).  Whatever your needs or purposes, you can’t go wrong with a good concrete sealer!
