Where to Buy Epoxy Resin in Halifax?

June 29, 2022

Even if you have the time and skills to apply an epoxy coating to your garage floor or kitchen countertops yourself, you will still need to purchase the epoxy.  Due to the many options available, this in itself can be a daunting task.  We have put together a short list of local suppliers of epoxy resins to help you get started.

An industrial supply store or home improvement store is your best option for a good selection of epoxy resins and hardeners.  Here are a couple in the Halifax area:

Grainger: an international industrial supplier, Grainger sells everything you might need to keep a warehouse or manufacturing facility running smoothly, from epoxy to forklifts.  Browse their in-store selection in Dartmouth, or visit them online at www.grainger.com

RONA Halifax: located in Halifax’s West End, RONA carries a wide variety of home and garden supplies and equipment, including epoxy flooring kits for home use. You can view their online store at www.rona.ca

Burnside Fiberglass Marine Supply: located in Dartmouth, Burnside Fiberglass supplies boat builders with all the necessary supplies to craft a sturdy and watertight marine vessel - including industrial grade paints and epoxies!  Check out their website at www.fiberglassmarinesupply.com

Many marine supply stores also carry epoxies.  Epoxy has a number of uses in the boating industry, so these stores either stock or can order many types of epoxy.

Spartan Industrial Marine: supplying both safety and repair & maintenance supplies, Spartan Industrial carries a wide variety of industrial products.  You can visit them online at www.spartanmarine.ca.

Binnacle Yachting Equipment is located on the west side of Halifax.  They carry nearly anything a boater could want or need, including a range of epoxy resins and hardeners.  Browse their online store at ca.binnacle.com

The internet is also a useful resource when shopping for specialty products like epoxy resin, but be sure that you know exactly what and how much you need before ordering online.  “Epoxy resin” can refer to a wide variety of products, and many of these are intended for small crafts, not for coating floors.  If you have any doubts about the product you are purchasing, an in-store shopping trip might be beneficial.  Not only are exchanges or additional purchases quicker and easier when shopping in store, but many of these stores’ employees are knowledgeable about the products they carry and can help you select the right product for your particular needs.

Selecting and purchasing an epoxy resin is an important first step in any epoxy coating project, but the work has only begun.  From floor prep to the final coat of sealer, a high quality epoxy coating is the result of not only the proper materials but also of a skillful and detailed application.  If at any time you decide you are in over your head, give us a call.

And How It Pays Off Long-Term
April 13, 2024
When it comes to interior flooring, epoxy has emerged as a versatile and durable option that offers both style and functionality. From residential spaces to commercial establishments, epoxy flooring has gained popularity for its seamless finish, easy maintenance, and endless design possibilities. One of the key decisions in installing epoxy flooring is choosing the right color and style to complement your interior decor and match your aesthetic preferences. Here's a guide to help you navigate through the myriad of options and select the perfect epoxy finish for your floors. Epoxy Flooring Basics Before delving into color and style choices, it's essential to understand the basics of epoxy flooring. Epoxy is a resinous material composed of epoxy resin and a hardening agent, which, when mixed together, create a tough and durable surface. Epoxy can be applied over concrete floors to create a seamless and glossy finish that is resistant to stains, chemicals, and wear and tear. Consider Your Space and Design Aesthetic The first step in choosing the right epoxy color and style for your interior floors is to consider the overall design aesthetic of your space. Are you aiming for a modern and sleek look, or do you prefer a more rustic and industrial vibe? Take into account the existing color scheme and decor elements in the room to ensure cohesion and harmony. Use Neutral Tones for Timeless Elegance For a classic and timeless look, consider neutral epoxy colors such as shades of gray, beige, or taupe. Neutral tones create a versatile backdrop that can easily complement various design styles and color palettes. They also help to create a sense of spaciousness and continuity, making them ideal for open-concept spaces. Use Bold Colors for Statement Floors If you're looking to make a bold statement with your floor, consider experimenting with vibrant epoxy colors such as blues, greens, or even metallic hues like copper or gold. Bold colors can add personality and flair to a room, serving as a focal point and conversation starter. Just be sure to balance bold epoxy colors with more subdued decor elements to avoid overwhelming the space. Bold colors also work best in smaller spaces like bathrooms or mudrooms - too much of a good thing can easily become, well, too much! Use Patterned and Textured Finishes for Visual Interest Epoxy flooring offers endless possibilities for creating custom patterns and textures that can elevate the design of your interior floors. From geometric designs to faux stone or wood finishes, you can achieve virtually any look with epoxy. Consider incorporating decorative flakes, aggregates, or stencils that highlight your overall design to add visual interest and texture to your floors. Seek Professional Guidance Choosing the right epoxy color and style for your interior floors can be overwhelming, especially with so many options available. Don't hesitate to seek guidance from professional epoxy flooring contractors who can offer expert advice and recommendations based on your specific needs and preferences. They can also provide samples and mock-ups to help you visualize the final result before making a decision. Selecting the right epoxy color and style for your interior floors is a crucial step in enhancing the aesthetic appeal and functionality of your space. By considering factors such as design aesthetic, existing decor, and the desired atmosphere, you can choose an epoxy finish that not only looks stunning but also reflects your personal style and complements your interior design scheme. With the right epoxy flooring, you can transform your floors into works of art that leave a lasting impression.
